I just walked out of your film showing Our Daily Bread. I felt like I was at a pro-life rally where someone was holding up a fetus and calling that an argument to a complex issue. Just showing ugliness without words, or even an artful presentation, is not an argument but a kind of ignorance. To sit through that I would need some information about something, where it took place, who's doing it, something that would help me make decisions about food. But just to show ugliness with no explanation is generalizing of the most ignorant kind.
About the Society for Agriculture and Food Ecology (SAFE)
We are UC Berkeley students who catalyze honest discussion of a truly sustainable food system.
We bring this discussion onto our campus, and into our community via panels, speakers, events and workshops.
Our intention is to be inclusive, productive and impassioned on behalf of our common goals of agricultural sustainability, ecological integrity, healthful human nutrition and vibrant rural economies.
We feel strongly that this discourse is a critical element in the formation of policy goals, urban consumer literacy, and the shaping of food science. We also hope to embolden those interested in food/farming to make a career in these fertile fields.
